Background Information about the School

Pungu primary started in 1968, while its bulching are “madanda”, The first Head teacher was Mr.Kafedha followed by Mr. Karai,Mr. Athuman Mguwa Madam Akinyi,Mr. Omari Wendo, Mr. Mwachiti Mr. Mwakuzumu, Mr. Yusuf Waidhanje,Margaret Chihunga,Mr. Kushindwa, Mr. Gakurya, Mr. Juma Mwayani, Mr. Mwakunena, Mr. Bakari Mwantenda,Mr. Choyo, Mr Chaka, Mr. Makame Hamadi, Mr Hamisi Mwakurichwa and now Madam Mgeni Hamisi.

About the exams

The First National Examination, Certificate of Primary Eduaction (C.P.E) was done in 1976. The results were very good, for the last few years the results were having a trend of up and down. About the results community talk on it and see that poor performance is due to lack of co-operation of parents to school activities also other parents say that it is “Mazingaombwe”

Catchment area

Most of the students are residing from Pungu village. Geographically Pungu Primary school is surrounded by Ngombeni primary School to the South East, Zibani to the South west, Kiteje Primary to the West and Mkumbi Primary School in the North west. Pungu Primary is surrounded by four villages. i.e Msumbe in the south west, Ziwani to the north and Tukiani and Mtsengo in the East.

Socio-Economic Activities

The Pungu Community relies predominantly on small-scale farming, small businesses, and firewood cutting for their livelihoods. These activities form the backbone of the local economy, providing essential resources for families and the wider community. In addition, a small number of individuals from the community seek employment as casual laborers in nearby urban areas such as Likoni and Mombasa Island.
